My momma always told me, there’d be…

so there’s a little festival that started in sydney earlier this year called Days Like This. Well on second thought I’m not sure if little is the right word…maybe boutique is better. Anyway, it’s kinda like some friends got together had dinner, got their drank on, talked some shit and answered the question: “what happened to festivals that were more about music and less about events as a lifestyle objects?”
So hopefully that’s the difference – the motivation – that makes this event unique and valuable. By all accounts the virgin experience earlier this year was incredible: Flying Lotus cutting shapes to his mesmerising basslines and outlandsish beats, Brother Ali supporting Atmosphere killing it with his incredible flow and insight, Public Enemy (enough said really), Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed busting out the soul to make you move like a tyre-swing in a hurricane, and the slammin’ Sharon Jones hot-steppin’ like she was running across boiling concrete after jumpin out the pool in summer.
So what’s in store this year? straight out the gate, hip-hop wise it’s: Methodman and Redman, Roots Manuva, the boys from Ugly Duckling, Dilated Peoples and Apsci. On the electronic front we got: space invadas (combo of Katalyst and Steve Spacek), Theo Parrish for some electrified soul, DJ Marky LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad bringin the drum and the bass, Joker for dubstepage and grime, Harmonic313 with glitch-hop, Brennan Green supplyin the disco and Quantic with his own style of african/latin cocktail of beats. on the soul funk tip this year: The Bamboos feat Kylie Auldist, Marva Whitney, The Black Seeds and Amp Fiddler. There’s a whole buncha other artists and bands but what’s a festival without that element of the unknown and discovering shit you just downright didn’t know existed?
So check it out one time, and if you’re not busy on Sunday January 10th in the first year of the Teenies (and you reckon you might be able to swing the Monday off work too…) then get your man-pants on and go buy yourself a ticket. There you go, I just came up with your first New Years resolution that might just be the only one worth keeping. And I did that pro-bono, because let’s face it – I give a shit about your audio pleasure.
Merry Christmas yawl and have a New Years with an indelible smile. peace out. round

The Rasp of the Scratcher a hip hop mix by DJ Moneyshot:
Was passed this mix from our man Roy Spencer more famously known as DJ Moneyshot. Roy is based in Bristol UK these days. I was fortunate enough to catch him playing a Trinity Canberra, early part of the year and we got on well because we both were Trash Bags.
Been meaning to get it up, out and about so finally here it is. Enjoy.
