E.L.K Debut Solo Exhibition “How you like me now, Bitch?”

When I first moved back to Canberra and we were just starting up “District” we hit up the National Portrait Gallery to do some shoots anyways there we bumped into E.L.K (Luke Cornish) a Canberra based stencil artist who’s been getting up for quite some time.
Since then he has had his work taken part in a fair few exhibitions around Australia and the world including “Your Kid Can’t Do This” which was backed by Melb based gallery Famous When Dead.
Now E.L.K has sorted his debut solo exhibition to take place in July. Make sure you spare some time to check it!

There is Fire Down Below:

When I first moved back to Canberra I was drinking at the back of this beer garden where I bumped into a…ball tight denim wearing dude that goes by TJ.
We quickly bonded over the love of collecting Vinyl, Funk, Golden Era Hip Hop and Alcohol (nohomo). Anyways TJ is cool and I’ll forgive him for his nut huggers, but what is cooler is his collection of photos. His photos being his personal collection as in the ones he took.
All I can say about his work is that it can be quite disturbing at times and make you ponder “What the fvck is this guy actually thinking when he decided to do that”? At the same time deep inside you’d be laughing your ass off to his wierd and twisted humor that is also on display.
Anyways dude has a solo show on at CCAS Manuka – Addy : 19 Furneax St Manuka. ACT.
If you gots time do check it. Exhibition runs from 11th to 21st March 2010.

So when I was helping promote a festival recently, I put some flyers down in one of the more interesting cafe’s in the city. I’m always down for street press – I guess it ’s like another heartbeat that says, wait a second, there are people in this city who are thinking and making art for the hell of it.
so I picked up this book of photos, tied together with ribbon and with a little card attached. pretty simple, but really effective. mainly b&w photos of ye olde Sydney towne.
not exactly sure what the photographers story is, but to be honest, I don’t wanna know. pretty sure she from the Can-Can though. I checked out the phlog and so should you: http://photographsandacupoftea.blogspot.com/

Power to the people. Right on.
I’ve been intending to go see Obey’s exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery for a while, but only just got around to it today. I’m always moved by the messages contained in the prints and artwork of Shepherd Fairey. His work screams softly about the nature of humanity and our place in society. Whilst the display of his work at the National Portrait Gallery is by no means substantial, its impact is still profound. Even the straight portraits in three or four colours are insightful, tailored to convey the essence of the individual and their message. Their style.
Don’t snooze on this as it ends on the 17th of Jan.
PS. while you’re there, check out the other parts of the gallery with collections of portraits in heaps of different formats. And the best part? no clams down.

Corinbank 2009
So the Corinbank 2009 festival kicked off on 27 Feb for three days of random entertainment, music, art and workshops. The festival was brought to you by the rat patrol. Who? Ever seen those weird looking dudes cruising the streets on even weirder looking bikes? That’s them.
To put it simply, it was three days of camping in the forest checking out art, gigs and chilling with an eclectic mix of people. So whether you’re into the likes of D’Opus and Roshambo, Resin Dogs or like my mum, want to chill out to the tunes of Archie Roach, there was something for everyone.
I believe the theme was avoiding symmetry. Check the pics – I don’t understand either.

Multicultural Festival Canberra –
Like every year the multicultural festival was on in Canberra. This event probably has to be the highlight of all the events that happen in Canberra. They got stalls of food and beer representing virtually every country and you spend the day sampling all the food and all the beers.
This year we started off checking out a Stencil Art exhibition organised by local artist E.L.K. The exhibition featured works by artists around Australia and the world. Was good seeing dope pieces which I’ve seen out and about on the streets, on canvas.

Beers check!

The exhibition featured some of my fav Australian artists from the likes of Vexta and HaHa (though there was only one piece by him)

That Ned Kelly piece was by HaHa

This year we started off smashing down some Serbian Rakhia, which at the time seemed like a good idea but as the night came it may have been a bad idea. Nah it was a great idea!

dutch pancakes have always been a fav of mine

They taste even better after a bit of alcohol

Back at Mia's doing what we like doing...drinking

Little man trying to get in on the action but being denied by the powers that be. Guess he'll have to wait another 17 years or possibly sooner if can get down.
Later on that night me and Lee were dropping beats at Trinity Bar. Lee got pissed of at me for getting way too wasted and not being able to stand let alone scratch and mix. Not very professional of me. I don’t have many regrets but that night was one. To top off things we had problems with the mixer and fader fucking out on us. We had to make do with a tooth pick on the faders. Fvck that shit.
